Built in Skopje for the businesses incumbents ignore.

TallyX exists because bookkeeping software has stopped being software for small businesses. We're rebuilding it agent-first.

Why TallyX

QuickBooks, Xero, FreshBooks — these tools digitized the manual process. They didn't change the work. TallyX is the first bookkeeping platform built for the post-LLM world: AI categorizes, the accountant approves, and the books are finished — not in progress.

The bookkeeping problem

Bookkeeping software stopped being software for small businesses a long time ago. QuickBooks is sold by the seat to mid-market accounting firms. Xero is positioned for international SMBs but priced for enterprises. FreshBooks chases freelancers. Sage chases manufacturers.

Small businesses with 1–20 employees, doing real accrual bookkeeping under IFRS or local equivalent — that segment is underserved. They get cheap consumer tools that can't generate finished statements, or expensive enterprise tools that demand a full-time bookkeeper to operate.

The agentic shift

Large language models change what bookkeeping software can be. Categorization is no longer a manual data-entry job — it's an inference task. A 2026 LLM, given a transaction description, the chart of accounts, and a few months of corrections, will categorize correctly more often than a fresh hire.

The shift isn't "AI helps the bookkeeper." It's "AI does the categorization, the bookkeeper reviews the work." That's a different product.

Why agent-native, not AI-bolted-on

We see two ways to add AI to existing bookkeeping platforms:

  1. Bolt a chat interface onto a CRUD API and call it AI. The agent ends up reading and writing one record at a time, like a junior employee with no judgement.
  2. Rebuild the API around the intent of bookkeeping work — categorize a month, generate statements, close a period — and expose those intents to agents and humans alike.

tallyx is built the second way. Every workflow has a named intent endpoint with semantic responses, confidence scores, and built-in next-action hints. Agents call the same API your team uses. There is no second-class agent surface.

Why Macedonia first

The founder is based in Skopje. The early customer pipeline is here. Macedonia is also a market that well-funded competitors don't notice — local language, local accounting standards, small absolute revenue. That makes it a good place to validate the loop without lighting money on fire.

If tallyx works for accountants in Skopje closing books for restaurants and dental clinics, it works for accountants in Berlin or Lisbon doing the same job.

What we're not

  • We're not a CRM, a payroll system, or an ERP. tallyx is bookkeeping. We integrate with the rest.
  • We're not auto-pilot. The accountant is always the licensed practitioner of record. The AI is the junior; the human is the partner.
  • We're not flashy. The product is calm and competent on purpose. Bookkeeping is a 50-year-old craft. We respect the craft and we respect the practitioners.

What's next

We're shipping Phase 3 now — multi-currency, recurring transactions, year-end close, opening balances. Phase 5 is the proactive agent: an AI that initiates work and surfaces it to the accountant for review, instead of waiting to be asked.

If you're an accountant whose practice is capped by hours and not by demand, we want to talk. Email hello@tallyx.co.
